Available on all buses and coaches with manual gearboxes, the new Scania clutch monitoring system ensures the smooth delivery of torque from the engine’s flywheel to the gearbox. It monitors clutch actuation when accelerating from a stop as well as on every up and down shift.
Frequent gearchanges are inevitable. And naturally, the more frequent, the more quickly the friction materials in the clutch will wear.
However, the rate of wear has as much to do with clutch actuation, as it does with frequency. Now Scania’s clutch monitoring system provides a way to avoid premature or unscheduled maintenance. Quite simply, wear is minimised with better timed and executed clutch engagements and shifts. What’s more, the smoother the actuation, the less the powertrain suffers from sudden torque shocks and reactions. This yields a further gain with increased service life and potentially reduced overhaul costs for the entire transmission system.
